The newly developed energy-curing system ebeam Inkjet Dryer (EID) enables food producers to print their product packaging digitally, in a way that is quick, environmentally friendly and safe – without any harmful photoinitiators. In contrast to curing using ultraviolet light, ebeam has eliminated the need for harmful photoinitiators. What's more, ebeam is significantly more energy-efficient than heat curing.
Thanks to the ebeam technology, packaging can be dried using digital printing methods that meet even the most stringent food safety requirements. That means food producers are now able for the very first time to make the most of the benefits offered by digital printing in the marketing of their products. Digital printing allows food packaging to be personalized even in small volumes – a trend that is becoming increasingly important within the food industry.
With the EID, ebeam is making available the technology that was previously lacking for application in the food domain. The first ebeam-curable inks are commercially available – and with the EID, so is the right hardware. In this way, the COMET Group segment is revolutionizing digital printing and presenting a new development that has immediately met with tremendous interest among food and printer manufacturers at drupa.
The system, which is being demonstrated at the ebeam stand in Hall 5, was developed in partnership with DICE and Collins Inkjet, which provided the printer and inks respectively.
