By recommending Prof. Dr. Gian-Luca Bona for election as a new Board member, the COMET Group Board of Directors seeks to expand its capabilities in technology management.
Since 2009 Dr. Bona has been CEO of Empa, the Swiss federal research institution based in Dübendorf, St. Gallen and Thun. One of Empa’s core competencies is materials development and testing, including inspection using x-ray technologies.
From 1988 to 2009, Dr. Bona worked at IBM in a number of capacities. From 1998 he was head of the photonics section at IBM’s Zurich research laboratory in Rüschlikon. In 2004 he became functional manager of various research departments at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California, and from 2008 to 2009 he was director of IBM Tape Storage Solutions, Tucson, Arizona.
Mr. Bona received a physics degree from ETH Zurich (the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) in 1983, followed in 1987 by a Ph.D. in physics. In 2009 he was appointed professor at ETH Zurich and EPF Lausanne. A prolific author of research publications, he has earned an outstanding reputation worldwide in materials and surface science as well as photonics and optoelectronics.
Upon election to the Board of COMET HOLDING AG, Dr. Gian-Luca Bona will become chairman of the Group’s Innovation and Technology Committee.
