The COMET Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of components and systems for the growth markets of non-destructive testing, security and semiconductors, is pushing the expansion of the X-ray generator product line, among other things by transferring the entire generator development and production activities from YXLON in Hamburg to the Modules & Components Division in Switzerland. At the same time, plans are in place to transfer the core activities from the Garbsen location (Feinfocus) to Hamburg, the main site of the Systems Division, and to close the Garbsen location.
The acquisition of YXLON International in 2007 enabled COMET to expand its product portfolio to include high voltage generators for industrial X-ray tubes. This product line has been in the Systems Division up to now. COMET’s objective is now the aggressive further development of this technology in order to achieve a similar market position as in the case of industrial X-ray tubes. Both development and production of generators are to be concentrated in the Modules & Components Division in Switzerland while the corresponding activities in Hamburg will be discontinued. As a result of this step, the product line will be situated in an environment facilitating strategic focusing and synergies in the development, production and marketing of complete X-ray sources.
At the same time it is planned to merge the core activities in the systems business of both North German locations. For this purpose, the activities of the Garbsen location (Feinfocus) are to be integrated into those of the main location of the YXLON systems business, Hamburg, and the Garbsen location is to be closed down. Accordingly, all Feinfocus activities will in future be carried out and developed in Hamburg.
Individual solutions, including removal offers, are being prepared for the total of 68 employees affected at the German locations. A redundancy programme is to be drawn up for retiring employees.
