The COMET Group, with annual sales of CHF 332.4 million (2016), is based in Flamatt, Switzerland, and has a presence in all world markets. The Group employs about 1,230 people worldwide, including about 440 in Switzerland. It operates production facilities in China, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and the USA, and maintains other subsidiaries in the USA, China, Japan and Korea. COMET’s stock (COTN) is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange.

The six-member Board of Directors of COMET Holding AG has been led by Chairman Hans Hess since 2005. The Group's top operational management team, the Executive Committee, has seven members and is headed by CEO Ronald Fehlmann.

Successful growth strategy


Since 2012 COMET Group was able to generate strong growth and significant value-added. Customer relationships were deepened, important development orders were won and the stage set for further vigorous growth along current market trends. With the acquisition of PCT Engineered Systems LLC, the direct market access for the innovative ebeam technology is granted.

Innovative and stable during world economic crisis


COMET Group is pushing out the boundaries of what is possible. The company has gone beyond the current maximum performance of 450 kV, leading to the first 600 kV X-ray source.

The Group won the Swiss Technology Award for ebeam technology and is acquiring Stolberg HF-Technik AG, a specialist for the development of generators.

Entry into end customer business


Medical X-ray tubes were phased out in favor of industrial metal ceramic tubes and  2003, the company moved its headquarters into a new building in Flamatt and opened another subsidiary in Shanghai.

The first step toward a systems business (end customer business) is taken by the acquisition of Feinfocus AG.

Global expansion and IPO


COMET Group is further expanding, towards the US market as well as to China.
1994, quality and environmental policy become a permanent part of COMET's corporate policy with the first ISO certification and 1996, the initial public offering is conducted.

Customer proximity for long-term collaboration


COMET AG was made a subsidiary of COMET HOLDING AG and the growing order book requires an expansion in production facilities.

The robust metal-ceramic X-ray tube convinces COMET's customers and is even used for a space mission.

Vacuum capacitors create second revenue stream


COMET registers its first patents and produces the first customized special tubes for key customers.

With their engineers’ extensive knowledge and experience in the fields of vacuum technology and high-voltage engineering, COMET founds a business unit for vacuum capacitors.

Early growth


Rotation anode X-ray tubes were added to the product range in the early fifties and the company acquires a license for in-house production of this type of tube from Machlett Ltd., enabling top-notch products to be series-produced in Switzerland and exported around the world.

Start-up stage


COMET AG was founded in 1948 as “Gesellschaft für elektronische Röhren AG” by Gerhard Steck in Bern-Liebefeld, Switzerland.

In 1950 Dr. Beat Steck, the founder’s son, took over the helm of the company.
